When a check has no name on the payee line and someone other than the maker brings it, the item must be tied to a rightful payee through proper endorsement. Have the payee write their name on the payee line and endorse the back, including drawing the T-bar next to the maker’s information. This creates a clear, authorized chain of endorsement and helps prevent unauthorized handling by anyone other than the intended recipient. The T-bar helps prevent later alterations or additional endorsements, strengthening the check’s security. Processing as cash would skip essential identity and authority checks, and endorsing with only the maker’s name wouldn’t establish who is truly authorized to negotiate the check when it’s presented by someone else.
